Present: Cllr. D. Dorling Chairman; Cllr. J. Mangnall; Cllr. L. Couper; Cllr. H. Painter; Cllr. P. Smith; Mrs V. White, Borough Councillor; Mrs. P. Griffiths, Clerk.
APOLOGIES: Apologies were received from Cllr. B. Chester and Cllr. A. Cox.
MINUTES: Mrs. White pointed out that under item 5 the sum of money should be £230,000 and the word “councils” should be “councillors”. The amendments were made and the minutes were signed as a true record.
BOROUGH COUNCILLOR’S REPORT: As Mrs. White had to leave early, the Chairman invited her to give her report as the next item on the agenda. Mrs White said that as she had not received a reply from Suffolk County Council regarding traffic safety improvements, she had e-mailed Mr. Watson. He had informed her that arrangements were being made for additional road signs to be put in place. Additionally, a lorry count had been taken and the figures were awaiting analysis by a consultant; they would then be compared with those taken previously. It was hoped that all necessary work would be completed in the current financial year. A review of council houses in Pakenham would take place in December. It had provisionally been decided to try and transfer housing stock to a housing association, but this would need the approval of the tenants and government. Consultation meetings would be held. Regarding the Thetford initiative, there were forthcoming workshops open to everyone, and Mrs. White would be attending the one on transport.
MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES:
i) Referring again to the traffic management improvements, Councillor Painter asked Mrs. White if she would seek further clarification from Mr. Watson of the last paragraph of his letter concerning the lorry count. Mrs. White agreed that she would.
ii) Councillor Dorling asked the clerk to write to the Rector and let him know that the parish council would not take responsibility for cutting the grass in the churchyard until it was definitely closed.
iii) In a written report Councillor Chester stated that progress was slow on the leases to the Bowls and Buggy Clubs, but he was assured that the documents would be ready shortly for signing. With regard to quotations for next year’s grass cutting, St. Edmundsbury were not interested and only one other quote had been received.
WREATH & DONATION TO BRITISH LEGION: It was unanimously agreed that a donation of £35 be made.
PLANNING APPLICATIONS:
Application had been made and granted for the erection of a chimney at The Cottage, Mill Road, Pakenham. The parish council had no objection.
