September 21st 2016 - Visit To The Royal Chelsea Hospital
20160921After an extremely early morning start our team arrived at Covent Garden at 10am just in time for coffee and cake. The ride through central London was fabulous and Adrian our trusted coach driver 20160921took us on an excellent capital mystery tour.We arrived at The Royal Chelsea Hospital just in time for an outdoor café lunch. We were then treated to a tour of the grounds and some of the main building on the amazing 66 acre site, by a very knowledgeable and rather interesting elderly resident. After another cup of tea and a quick shop we returned home through the not to be recommended London evening rush hour.

Our planned invitation visit to No 10 Downing Street was sadly postponed until the Spring. Obviously due to Conservative party pressure of work and the annual conference.

October 13th 2016 – Beads for a Better Life
20161013Alison Brain a children’s nurse from Addenbrookes impressed us all with her account of life in a Kampala orphanage. This incredible unassuming lady has spent the last nine years visiting, funding and supporting the orphanage and its young residents in a far off land as well as maintaining a career and her family. One of her many fund raising efforts was following the Kampalan women’s example of making and selling beautiful beads, which naturally we were all delighted to purchase. The refreshment team were Yvonne, Tracy and Pat,  great eats and service girls, thank you. It was a great evening, but the talk provoked much thought on how lucky we and our families are, to live in such a safe and loving environment as Pakenham.

20161013My co-organiser Gill Parry was delighted to present Justine from The Leading Lives Charity, a cheque for £200.00 on behalf of The Flower and Produce Show 2016 at our October meeting.
My grateful thanks to everyone in the village who made this possible.
