Pakenham WI News - September 2014

Pakenham WI

August 23rd 2014 – Pakenham Flower and Produce Show
My grateful thanks go to all who exhibited and helped to make the show a huge success. Although never intended as a fund raising event, with the generous donation of the village hall premises by Richard Bryant and family we were able to donate £200.00 to the magnificent Forget- Me -Not Campaign. Please see Pakenham Village News for more details.

September 10th 2014 – West Side Story
Twenty- one sets of ears are still ringing with the fabulous music of this magnificent show. I have been doing my housework for the last two days to Tonight, Maria and many others ringing in my head. The musical from the film of 1961 brought so many nostalgic memories for all of us. It was a brilliant evening my grateful thanks go to Tracy Martin for organising the trip.

September 11th 2014 – I’m Happy I’m a Crier
Brenda WilsonBrenda Willison, a Newmarket Town Crier of 28 years experience joined us for the evening to tell her own personal story of her love of shouting!!!What a brilliant inspiring lady, who had been all over the globe pursuing her passion of town crying. This totally remarkable lady had won competitions from Niagra Falls to Australia and all over Europe. What was even more remarkable, was the fact that she had funded herself on most occasions, and received no income for her role as Newmarket Town Crier.Pakenham WI 20140911

The refreshments were provided by Celia, Margaret and Ros, great eats girls, thank you. We were delighted to present a cheque to Dave Gooderham, the proceeds of the Flower and Produce Show, for the Forget-Me-Not Campaign.

Coming Up:-
October 9th 2014 - Open Invitation Meeting with Amanda Sutherland
Members decided to invite non-members to hear Amanda speak on her transmission from a Costume Designer to starting her own business. We hope to encourage new members to join our institute to enable it to survive for many years to come.

October 11th 2014 – Autumn Jumble Sale
The event in the village hall will include some nearly new clothing as well as the normal jumble goods. We hope to raise enough money to swell our funds for the coming year’s speakers and events.

October 21st 2014 – Annual Group Meeting at Elmswell
This is the annual get together of all the 7 member institutes of our group. This is a very social evening to give us an opportunity to meet up with neighbouring institutes for reports, chat and fun.

October 23rd 2014 – The Annual WI Quiz
We have two teams competing for the annual WI brains of the year competition quiz at Culford. Good luck girls.

I must sadly close this month with memories and love of our wonderful member Maggie West who died on August 21st 2014. We will miss her lots and think of her often.
