Pakenham WI News - August 2014

Pakenham WI

August 6th 2014  - Alice Ingall’s departure for South Africa
My sincere thanks to all the kind people of Pakenham who so generously donated the gifts of toiletries, toys and art goods for Alice to take on her scouting project to South Africa. The response was truly fantastic.
August 14th 2014 – Ian and his bike rides
Another really splendid evening listening to one man’s travels all over the world on his bike. Ian a retired maths teacher from Walsham le Willows, had us enthralled with all his cycling exploits over many years. We were delighted to welcome Judy Fish  a new village resident as a guest for the evening.
The T team of Pat, Ricky and Val did us proud, thank you ladies.

August 23rd 2014 – Flower and Produce Show
Gill and I look forward with some trepidation the second of our Flower and Produce Shows this year on behalf of the W.I. to enable us to donate the proceeds to the BSE Forget Me Not campaign. Again I must thank the generous folks of our village for the brilliant raffle prizes donated via the post office, truly over whelming. We will be serving the now famous WI Cream teas and are especially pleased to welcome our very own scone queen Carole Cordell back into the fold for the afternoon.

September 10th 2014 – West Side Story
A full coach of members is bound for Norwich Theatre Royal to see the touring London production of West Side Story. This is a wonderful way to spend a theatre night out, village hall to venue service, courtesy Mr Perry and his team.

September 11th 2014 – I’m Happy I’m a Crier !!!
Brenda Willison joins us for the evening to tell us of her new post as Town Crier of Newmarket. Brenda has been a crier for 26 years and will share with us her many experiences.

October 11th 2014 - Pakenham W.I. Autumn Jumble Sale
Our first experience as a WI of jumble sailing, but like most rural organisations we need to make money to survive. This is a super way to get rid of all our, and hopefully your unwanted clothes and make some extra money for our funds at the same time. Like most institutes, funds are limited and to ensure we serve our members well with good speakers, meeting venue and running cost we desperately need to fund raise for ourselves.
Forthcoming events
November 21st 2014 - Christmas Shopping Day to The Sandringham Christmas Fare
November 26th 2014 - Christmas Shopping and Supper at Wattisfield Pottery

Our thanks to Chris at The Village/ Church Newsletter and Ann at the Pakenham Village web site for publishing our news every month; you are doing a great job guys and we really appreciate all the great publicity.
