March 8th 2011 - NSPCC Lunch at Ravenswood Hall.
Five members enjoyed one of the best salmon lunches I have ever tasted, what a super way to spend a Tuesday lunch time and afternoon. The meal was followed by a talk and slide show by Craig Jarvis on his fund raising activities over the past year. My compliments to the chef and to Susie who organised the event.

March 9th 2011 - Visit to the Army Air Corps at Wattisham.
Thirty five members including some partners renewed their acquaintance with The Army Air Corps on Wednesday evening when the group were invited to the base at Wattisham. After a brief visit to a rather dusty and extremely draughty H.A.S ( a hardened aircraft shelter ) escorted by a delightful young service man we were taken to a large hanger for a two hour presentation on the role of the magnificent and rather forbidding apache helicopter. The briefing explaining the role of the army air corps in today's defence force was given by an extremely dark and handsome captain who sent even the oldest of our member's pulses racing. We were then invited to look round the two hangar apaches and all the equipment used by the crew and support staff to keep them air worthy. The more agile of the girls sat in the cockpits and had a pretend fly in this magnificent flying machine capable of three hours flying time on each mission - a huge black menace in the skies over Afghanistan. We were treated to an excellent selection of cakes and tea by the only two ladies visible during the evening. My personal memory of the visit will not be the aircraft but the delightful and courteous young men who were our hosts for the evening - a credit to their profession, their families and their country.

March 10th 2011 - The Art of Millinery by Abigail Crampton.
The village hall was packed to hear this delightful young woman demonstrate her hat making skills. Abigail trained at The London School Of Fashion had been a milliner for 15 years and has operated out of a studio in her Cambridge garden. Members were captivated by her passion for the trade and enjoyed being invited to take part and try on her magnificent creations. We thoroughly enjoyed her company for the evening, she reciprocated by saying she would love to join our group if she lived nearer.
The competition 'decorate a hat' was won by Doreen Head and as there were only two entries I came last !!!! The refreshments provided by Julie, Margaret, and Yvonne were scrumptious especially the coffee cake, thanks ladies.
