Pakenham WI News - May 2010

Pakenham WI

April 14th - 21st. Tea Time in Texas.
Tea Time in Texas was the most amazing adventure for all who took part on both sides of the Atlantic. The hospitality and caring shown by our hosts was fabulous, the rapport between us and them fantastic.
The tea was a great success and was televised on CBS the american news network that evening. The story was followed by hundreds of people on the village web site, the American web site [lots of Tea Time in Texas photos] was followed by people all over America and there is now a third web site on facebook set up by Marriages our flour supplier.
We have been approached to do talks on the trip and by popular request a book with the adventure and recipes goes to print next week. All proceeds will go to Help for Heroes and the American equivalent.
Life for the nine of us will never be the same again. Thanks to the team and to all the local people for your interest and support.

May 9th - Sale Trail.
A very successful day for the W.I.'s first sale trail. Thirty houses in the village took part and the weather held for them to sell all theIr unwanted items to the many customers who invaded the village. The now internationally famous culinary team served sandwiches, cakes and liquid refreshments from the village hall. The event raised £250 which will contribute to members outings for the coming year. Many thanks to Marion Sargent for a great idea and for organising the event.

May 11th - Afternoon Tea for Gayton W.I.
The culinary team donned their frilly pink aprons to bake and serve a scrumptious english tea for a visiting W.I. group from Norfolk. The tables were attractively laid in blue and white with flower arrangements in an array of tea pots. The food was to the now famous standard and our visitors went home suitably impressed.

May 13th - Resolution Meeting.
This years resolution meeting was held at Great Ashfield. Eighteen of our members enjoyed the kind hospitality of a neighbouring institute and voted unanimously to pass this years resolution on Food Labelling.

May 20th - The Story of Tea Time in Texas.
This is an open meeting to show the pictures, tell the story and sample the food from this amazing experience in Texas.

June 6th - Pakenham Open Gardens
Pakenham W.I. will be running the village hall for the day. We will serve hot lunches, followed by afternoon cream teas. There will be a variety of stalls in the hall including a cake stall, a second hand clothes stall, a raffle, a bric a brac stall and many more. We look forward to your company. MEMBERS PLEASE BAKE BAKE BAKE WE NEED YOU HELP FOR THIS FUNCTION.

June 10th - Flowers for Thickies.
June's meeting is a flower demonstration by Julia Eeles, an expert flower arranger. Everyone is welcome to try their hand at a simple table arrangement - the flowers oasis and dish will be provided.

Forthcoming functions are a trip to Sandringham Flower show on July 28th - we still have seats available on the coach.
Members are going to Buckingham Palace on August 19th.
A trip to see Dancing Queen at the theatre in Norwich is being planned.
Our barbeque booked on the playing fields and pavillion in January for July has been cancelled as the bowls club have been given priority over our booking. This has come as a great disappointment to the committee and members as all the plans for the evening had been finalised. It was our aim to use this excellent facility on a regular basis and sadly this has been cancelled. The event will be held at Squires Gate by kind permission of the ex treasurer Rip Kirby.
Plans and advertising have just begun for this years Fashion Show in The New Green Centre at Thurston on September 17th. Double clothes donation this year so watch this space for further news.
