Pakenham WI

September 29th 2012 - Race Night
The thrill of the races came to Pakenham for one night only. Six races were shown on the giant screen and folks placed their 'bets' on the horse they fancied might win. The only skill required was to shout extra loud when the race was shown to spur their horse to be first past the post! The tote was kept busy taking the money and paying out the winners after each race. After three races we all relaxed and enjoyed a splendid supper, prepared and served by our W.I. members. Refuelled, the remaining three races were then run. Sincere thanks to all our sponsors, Peter Whitford who was a great MC for the evening, race goers and W.I. members who all contributed to a memorable event. The money raised will be shared between the East Anglia Air Ambulance and W.I.Funds. We are arranging a presentation to the soon as we can. Hope to have a photo with the December W.I. News.

October 11th 2012 - Making a Gingerbread House.
Andrea Davey came and wowed us with her demonstration of how to 'build' a gingerbread house. O.K Andrea's had lots of practice at making them - but seeing her skill and artistic flare was fascinating to watch. With a flick of the wrist, an ice cream cone and green icing suddenly became a spikey Christmas tree. A sugar cube when given a red icing bow became a present under the tree and chocolate drops became a footpath to the gingerbread door. All Magic! Recounting some of her career path, which has led to her current very successful business, Andrea told us of the hours of practice and experiment that goes into perfecting the cakes she produces. Seeing her work first-hand the practice has become just PERFECT!! Carole Hurrell won the third competition of the year. All points awarded for each round are added and the winner or winners will be announced at the AGM and presented with the in house Hilda Phillips Cup.

It's party time when we celebrate a little bit early with a traditional Christmas meal provided by Andrea Davey and her team. Fab food, crackers, music, secret Santa and a glass or two; a splendid way to round off what has been a very eventful year.
