Pakenham WI News - December 2011

Pakenham WI

A very Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone.

November14th 2011 - Sugar Beet Factory Visit
Last year we had a speaker Steve Cuthbert who explained the production of sugar. He kindly agreed to take us, once the campaign was running, on a very rarely granted guided tour of the Bury factory. Once dressed in hard hats, high vis jackets, goggles and ear defenders, we were shown the whole process from the muddy raw beet to pure white sugar. Our sincere thanks to Steve and his team for a fascinating tour.

November 19th 2011 - Norwich Shopping
We all went with bags of excitement and energy and returned tired but with bags full of goodies! Thetford Garden Centre for tea and cake and yet more shopping rounded off a super day out. Special thanks to Tracy Martin and Adrian our driver from Perry's Coaches.

December 8th 2011 - Our Annual Dinner
The W.I. year was rounded off with music, food, drinks and enjoyable company. Andrea Davey and her team served us with another splendid meal. The in house competition cup for 2011 was presented to Doreen Head who is a joint winner this time with Lynn Pearl. We welcomed another new member Beryl Sidebotham. We presented Mary Kirby, our previous president, with a gift, offering her our sincere thanks for all that she has done for our W.I and wishing her every success with the many new ventures she is embarking on. Great live music from key board player Marcus, a sing a long, then Secret Santa a reprise film show, by our own screen queen Tracy, of some of the fun times we have had this year, rounded off a lovely evening.

December 12th 2011 - Carol Service
Held at St. Mary's church in Bury, when all the W.I.s of Suffolk West Area get together to celebrate the coming of Christmas. Our members, Lesley-Ann Farrington, gave one of the readings and others members went along to welcome in the Christmas season.

January 12th 2012 - Monthly Meeting
We start the new year with a display of baskets, bringing Indian sunshine to brighten up our often-gloomy January days. Not a member? Why not make a resolution to come and see what the W.I. is all about these days? You'll be made most welcome and what's on each month is on the village hall notice board.

February 9th 2012 - Missing People
We hear about this organisation that supports those who have literally lost someone dear to him or her. Luke Durbin went missing in May 2006. Hear in her own words how his mother has faced life's challenges since then, not knowing what has become of him. This meeting is open to all.
