Pakenham WI

April 11th 2013 - SULSAR
"No! Not the dance" our speaker told us, something very different. Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue. A voluntary group of men and women who support the Police when searching for people reported missing. Amazingly in East Anglia alone some 2,500 persons are reported missing each year! On call 24/7, 365 days a year this enthusiastic band offer their time and expertise in tracing those who accidentally or deliberately go missing. Their extensive training teaches them to cope with every situation, however harrowing it may become. There is also great joy when a lost person is returned to safety. SULSAR relies for its operational costs from sponsorship, grants and charitable donations. Good to know they are there! Thank you to Doreen, Francis, Margaret, Mary and Sue for the lovely refreshments and to Carole for the birthday posies this month.

Coming up:-

May 9th 2013 - RESOLUTION DISCUSSION AND AGM
We are all familiar with the 'To Let' signs appearing over closed shop units in our town. It is the subject of our W.I. Conference this year. To give the local view we are most pleased that Mr Mark Cordell from Bid4Bury is joining us to share his thoughts on what can and is being done to reverse this trend. We will also be electing our committee members for the coming year. From those elected we will vote for our new President for May 13/April14.

MAY 12th 2013 - MILLS DAY
We are pleased to be part of a great day at the Pakenham Watermill. Lots of stalls selling locally made goodies and our home made cakes, scones, savouries and puddings are a must. A glorious setting by the mill pond with music and a wonderful atmosphere. An annual treat not to be missed.

JUNE 23rd 2013 - SALE TRAIL
A grand chance to have a good sort out and turn your unwanted items into cash, without dragging them all to a car boot sale. How to take part will be in the JUNE magazine. On that day Trail Maps and refreshments will be on sale in the village hall.

Not a member? Why not come along to one of our meetings and see what we are all about. No charge and you will be made most welcome. Call Pat on 235291 for any information you need. Marion Sargent
