Pakenham WI News - May 2011

Pakenham WI

April 27th 2011 - Lilies of the Land.
A team of members enjoyed this much acclaimed play at the Cambridge Arts Theatre. Mr Perry's coach service was used yet again and this time found the right place at the right time. A good evening was had by all.

May 12th 2011 - The Resolution Meeting.
Badwell Ash and Great Ashfield were our guest for this year's resolution meeting. After hearing, debating and voting on the two resolutions to be heard at this years AGM in Liverpool, members voted unanimously in favour of the government maintaining support for local libraries, as an essential local educational and informative resource.
Our guest for the evening was Gavin Downes of the Gavin Ashley hairdressing salon. Gavin cut Margaret Tipple's hair with wonderful results transforming her totally and reducing her age by ten years or more. Members and Margaret were delighted with the result. He was a delightful guest and a really nice guy answering the many questions us ladies needed to know on how to best care for our hair. He brought along his cousin Charlie who treated us to his hilarious repertoire of Suffolk humour.
After delicious homemade cakes and tea provided by Bridget, Julie Pat and Kay we all went home to try out the Margaret Tipple hair style.

Last but by no means least I would like to share with you the most beautiful and poignant poem sent to me by vets surgery the day after my beloved Harriet left for cat heaven, hankies to the ready.!!!
If it be I grow frail and weak,
And pain should wake me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle can't be won.
You will be sad, I understand,
Don't let grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test,
We've had so many happy years,
What is to come will hold no fears,
You'll not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes please let me go,
I know in time you will see,
It is kindness you do to me,
Although my tail its last has waved,
Do not grieve that it should be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do,
We've been so close, we two these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
