20th October 2009 - Annual Thredwastre Group at Thurston Green Community Centre.
It was Pakenham’s turn to host this annual meeting for the seven institutes in our group.
We started the evening with the beautiful music of the Salvation Army Band. The meeting commenced with the singing of Jerusalem accompanied by the band, the sound was quite amazing. After the business section the speaker Captain William Wells (stunningly attired in full naval uniform which certainly impressed the ladies) told us the spooky tale of The Myths and Legends of the Bermuda Triangle. Refreshments were our now famous cup cakes suitably decorated in purple and green glitter quite a spectacular sight it certainly impressed the visiting institutes. Our entertainer was Alison Townrow an excellent belly dancer even Captain Wells was captivated with her costume.!!! The evening was a huge success and we were happy to donate £200 to The Salvation Army for their Christmas appeal.
29th October 2009 - Trip to see The Calendar Girls.
Twenty of us departed from Pakenham at midday aboard a Perry coach to the capital. How lucky we were it was a warm sunny day ideal for walking, sightseeing or shopping. We went our separate ways for the afternoon and supper. We all met up at The Noel Coward Theatre. Being a stage play it differed slightly from the film but was an excellent and most enjoyable performance. We were able to sit outside in Leicester Square drinking wine at 10.30.pm the weather was so good, what better way to end a girls day out.
12th November 2009 - Annual Dinner and AGM at The Fox.
Many of us felt it would be nice to support our local pub for this year’s dinner and what a wise move it proved to be. The food was superb, the service was great. Becca and her staff made us so welcome we can highly recommend the experience to all. The business part of the evening was to appoint the committee and president for 2010 and thank all concerned for their contribution in 2009. We welcomed Julie Jones onto the committee which retained all its 2009 members and I was unanimously elected to serve a fourth term as president. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the committee and all the members for their support and friendship over the past three years and I look forward to all the adventures of 2010.
