Extracts from Church News - September 2002

The re-ordering of St. Mary's Church begins in September. We hope that the work will be finished by Easter. The north and south transepts have been cleared and many thanks are due to all those who helped in this effort.

During the winter we shall have some inconveniences but we hope that the work will provide us with a new resource that all can use and will be a benefit to everyone.

The Church Walk and Barbecue went off very well as usual. It was a very pleasant social occasion and about sixty people enjoyed the afternoon. Thanks to Keith Boundy for the walk and to the USAF for the barbecue, thanks also to Keith Shelbourne, Bernie Freeman, Richard Brown, Jim Burrows, Clive Blanshard and Derek Dorling. To everyone who supplied sweets and salads, many thanks to you also.

The Open Gardens, an annual event, was well supported. To all those who put in the hard work in the gardens, thank you. The Village Hall Fund was boosted by £600!

Congratulations to Di and Trip Tipple of The Owell as they celebrate their Golden Wedding. Both born and bred in Pakenham, Di's father was the local carpenter and coffin maker and Trip's family were well known "Fen Roader's". We wish them well and many happy years to come.

Good wishes too, to Bob and Phyllis Firth of Manor Garth who have been married fifty-four years.
